What Does This Word Counter Do?

This tool counts words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs in your text as you type, and estimates how long it would take to read or speak out loud. Click "Analyze Readability" for a deeper check that scores how easy your text is to read.

How the Readability Score Is Calculated

The score is based on four weighted factors:

    FactorWhat it checks
Sentence lengthShorter sentences (roughly 15-20 words) tend to be easier to follow than long, multi-clause ones.
Word lengthText made mostly of short, common words is easier to read than text full of long or technical terms.
Vocabulary varietyA healthy ratio of unique words to total words, without excessive repetition.
Reading easeA Flesch-style reading ease estimate combining sentence and word length into a single 0-100 score.

    Reading and Speaking Time

Reading time is estimated at roughly 200 words per minute, the typical adult silent-reading speed. For scripts, presentations, or voiceovers, plan on a slower speaking pace of around 130 words per minute.
